Red Bud Isle-Dog Park

Published by Chris | Filed under Austin, Parks

We have a dog park here in Austin called Red Bud Isle. It’s the coolest dog park I’ve come across. For starters, it’s a Island in the middle of Lake Austin…actually it might be Town Lake (I always get the 2 confused). The Island is completely leash free with lots of dogs running around and getting wet. The park has a main play area by the entrance and parking lot. Then it has 1 main trail that runs from the parking lot all the way to the tip of the island with smaller trails that go down to the water. At the tip of the island it has a rope swing where you’ll get the occasional drunken redneck swingin’ away. The park is also a spot for a launching your Kayak or just pulling it up on the shore and chillin (as long as you don’t mind dogs running all over). There also seems to be a few people fishing, I’m not sure what kind of fish would be in that lake though. Nevertheless if you’re in Austin and want to take yourself and your dog someplace to cool off, I would highly recommend Red Bud Isle.

Directions: From MoPac in Austin, take the Lake Austin Blvd. exit and head west. Drive past UT Married Student Housing and the Lions Municipal Golf Course. Turn left onto Redbud Trail and then turn left into the parking lot once on the island.
